Tick Tock

Quick update: Have finished the timebomb & mushroom weapons special effects. Still need to sort the user input for the fuse on the timer so another re-write of the control panel is needed.

Wellies updated

Well, it's been a while since I posted an update on wellies. To be honest, not too much progress has been made. Another weapon (mushroom) has been added but I've yet to add the special effect of the explosion. Sorted out the problems with the trails on the carrot torpedo. That's it for the moment

Robots in Disguise

Went on a trip down memory lane yesterday and bought Transformers for the PS2. It's total class! Was massively into Transformers as a kid, though was not a fan of the re-working and re-releasing of the brand during later years. Though the game uses the "updated" Transformers, this doesn't significantly annoy me as much as it did back then, in fact the introduction of the mini-cons (in terms of gameplay) adds a lot to the game itself. Anyway, hopefully this won't impact too much on the progress of Wellies.....

2nd Version for Beta-Testing

A new version of Wellies was sent out today for beta testing. Still a few things to iron out before releasing the 1st version.

May Day weekend updates

Tried to post this at the end of the week but got some sort of error. Anyway, better luck this time.

I've made a bit of progress with Wellies over the May Day weekend, based on the feedback from the Beta-testers. Firstly, a new control panel with a bigger launch button. I've also sorted out problems with the collision detection (was only detecting in the horizontal but now deals with the vertical as well). Also put in a loop back to the start to save relaunching each time.

Additionally I've been thinking of some new weapons and have thrown together some graphics for a carrot torpedo and a spade (can you dig it?) but have yet to decide on their effects (though the carrot will almost certainly NOT spin, but fly tip first).

Here's a screenshot with the updated control panel.

New control panel

Haven't done a new screenshot in a while (probably becuase the graphics haven't changed in a while!) but I've got round to improving the control panel. Basically have a bigger launch button plus a sound on/off button. It plays a lot faster if you don't have to wait until each sound clip is played. Hopefully in future I will be able to play the sound clips concurrently with the other process but until then this is a reasonable work around. Have also made a few of the updates suggested by the beta-testers but still want to get a few more done before releasing it for another round of testing.

Also, got the problem with the makesis sorted. I was getting well confused by the two UID numbers invovled but thankfully guys over at my-symbiansorted me out.

Makesis revisited

Been having a bit of an issue with the makesis function but have finally managed to get it up and running (albeit with a development rather than an actual UID). Will try the proper one tonight - fingers crossed.

Haven't actually made much progress with Wellies recently as I've been busy with other things (a bluetooth adapter for my PC one). Am planning to get bemused up and running and use it to control my music collection.

"It wasn't me..."

It wasn't me!

Ah, the joys of having a common word as a surname.

Beta-testing

Have had a bunch more comments back from the Beta testers. (cheers guys). Some known problems, some that have been fixed & some new ones. Have run into some probs with makesis though - it claims the file is not compatible with my phone. I'm assuming it's some mistake in my pkg file.

Go ahead punk, makesis my day

Finally got the makesis command up and running. I think it was down to some elements of the Symbian SDK not being installed properly. Anyway, this should allow me to package up an distribute the game for beta-testing.

As for progress on the game. Have added a sound flag (until I can resolve the playing of wav files concurrently with other tasks rather than sequenctially). Improved the sheep explosion, which can now spark off a further explosion if another sheep is hit. However, there are still issues if it explodes too near to it's start position and gets stuck in a loop.

Also, planning to improve the control panel at the top - bigger launch button for starters and maybe symbols rather than text for angle and power.

"The answer my friend...."

Have done a screen update in a while, so here's one. Visually, nothing much has changed in the last couple of weeks though I've sorted out some issues with the exploding sheep routine. Also, I've changed the wind so it now acts as a force rather than a constant on any missiles, allowing for boomerang type shots.

Also, the explosings currently are pretty weak - need to scale them up. Ideally I'd like a lemmings type explosion where small bits of debris get scattered around the screen. Conceptually I think I have it sussed, but putting it into practice is a different matter. A job for the weekend.

New PC

Finally got my new PC at the weekend and therefore the OPL coding should pick up. Lots of "little" things to tidy up but nothing major to report. Again, if anyone else wants to help out with Beta-testing, give us a shout.

Maybe tomorrow...

Was doing a bit of programming directly on my phone and had taken some pictures the previous evening. Before I knew it the internal memory was full. Luckily there was a tiny amount of space left allowing me to perform a move functions on one of the pics (though it did take several minutes). This was after several hairy minutes where the phone would not boot. Needless to say I cleared up a lot of space on the phone.

Was planning to get the first version of Wellies out to the beta-testers tonight but am having problems creating the .sis files. Oh well, as they say in the littlest Hobo "Maybe tomorrow....."

"Goodbye Turkey, my attorney will be in touch"

Delays on the PC purchase means development is just crawling along. However, have implemented a new collision detection routine using a duplicate of the playing area in but only using black and white. Have implemented some additional random scenery along with some sounds. Using a routine based on the one used in Shut the box. Can only get a sound clip to play sequentially rather than at the same time as other stuff (i.e. graphic updates).
