A lazy sunday in bed...

Well after spending yesterday afternoon working on my car again, I'm spending my Sunday very lazily in bed. The steering wheel and handbrake cover are now looking as pretty as the rest. Not much else to say except secret projects are nearing completion so may be unveiled in the not too distant future.

More car bollox...

Yay it's my birthday and the Wonderful Lisa (the gf) has bought me some funky carpet mats as a prezzie. Much to the pleasure of my car interior. I've also purchased a new gear knob and gaiter, a fuel filler cover cap, and a new bumper. Hee hee, should be looking gooood soon.

Stage one complete

The cockpit in my car is now rebuilt and looking a hell of a lot better. Can't wait until pay day then I can start putting in some much needed ICE gear. Then once we have a comfortable place to sit and drive it becomes time to hunt for some outside mods. Anywho get over to my car mods site to have a gander at the work now done.

More time = more work

Well after the fitting of the gear knob, which looks rather snazzy, we visited halfords where I bought some car interior spray paint. Via the power of the Haynes manual I dismantled most of the dash and centre console and have spent the evening spray painting parts red. My car interior now has a rather smashing red/black interior (or at least it has it waiting to be fitted). Photos and notes will be going on my car page tomorrow once the refitting is complete.

A successful day's work.

Well this morning was yet another driving lesson, where my instructor finally gave me the forms to book my test! Woo, not long now! After that I got home, made a bee-line for my car and started to work on a nasty problem involving the key not locking the driver side door....

Fortunately for me the door was simple to dismantle to get to the locking mechanism. The problem was that although the key would unlock the door fine, when locking the door the handle would open the door with some gentle persuasion (i.e. lift the door a little). If I used the lock on the inside on the other hand the car locked fine.

Originally I tried buggering about by locking it on the inside and getting out of the passenger side door, until I realised that the key didn't even turn in that door (seems like internal locking only to me), so I had to scoot round to the back doors where I could push the internal locker down with the door open and then close the door to the satisfaction of a car well locked. Needless to say that this song and dance got very annoying in the few times I have had to do it since getting the car so something needed done.

Lo and behold after about half an hour buggering about in the door the outside lock now locks the door properly although it now needs some persuasion to unlock it, but needless to say this seems a much more secure option.

I now await the arrival of my girlfriend so we can apply some mods to the inside of her cockpit and then a trip round the shops to get some styling gear to make my interior a tad less bland.

Modding my Car

Plans are underfoot for the modding of my Citroen ZX, and a new site has been made at Cardomain.com in order to host my mods. Although it's only a slight modification on the system idea we use here, I thought it'd be a better setting for showing off the car and getting other car people's ideas.

BTW thanks to Jizzo today for helping with the sounding off of ideas.

The Smartphone Arena

Hmms interesting developments are afoot at the moment. The Register have reported on an Open Sourcing of the OPL dev language for Symbian devices, which is a definate boon for hobby developers. Also there are polls from Carphone Warehouse that rate the Orange SPV as worst phone out at the moment, along side research that reckons that WinCE will take off like wildfire in the smartphone market...

Far be it from me to think that some of these people talk utter bollox, but at the mo M$ needs to pull something huge out of the bag to go from bottom to top in the space of a few years as quoted in this report at El Reg.

As for OPL, currently Java is leading the way in the cheap and cheerful smartphone app development area, unfortunately this is an awfully complex language in comparison to OPL which will enable beginner programmers the chance to make apps in the style currently being thrown about by Java programmers. Let us not forget that some of the best games of all time originated from hobby coders, who can forget the incredible "Grandad and the Quest for the Holey Vest" and also "Grandad in the search of the sandwiches". Harking back to my Atari gaming days, half of my favourite games were shareware/freeware and in some cases some off the wall ideas were thought up as well as good twists on existing games. Lets hope something of these old ways can come to Symbian devices.
