Well after the fitting of the gear knob, which looks rather snazzy, we visited halfords where I bought some car interior spray paint. Via the power of the Haynes manual I dismantled most of the dash and centre console and have spent the evening spray painting parts red. My car interior now has a rather smashing red/black interior (or at least it has it waiting to be fitted). Photos and notes will be going on my car page tomorrow once the refitting is complete.
