Java: Worse than Cheese

Well, worse than cheese at giving me nightmares. I'm tearing my hair out at Java.

While I do champion OPL (no really? - Vikki), every PR Suit and Marketing Geek has said "Java is the way forward" and for the last 14-18 months I've been trying to do some Java stuff on the Symbian OS.

Well I had a little breakthrough at Christmas, I've been slowly struggling to get any Java code that is close to the standard I set myself for releasing applications. If only I could get that far, because the manuals and code themselves seem to be written by gururs for gurus, or first principles for idiots.

It would be nice to have an intermediate level. Anyone have any suggestions? (And I don't mean J2ME in a Nutshell which is good, but just a bit too far ahead).
