Russ pointed out ShoutCast over on his Blog, and pretty much destroyed the few hours I had left yesterday evening. Not by browsing all the Internet Radio Stations that Shoutcast picks up (it's a plug-in for Winamp, the old warhorse, that allows you to listen to streamed internet 'Radio' stations). Oh no, my time was spent working out how I could set it up so you could all listen to my MP3 collection and dulcet tones.
So a bit of work later (about two hours) I had an audience of four (Russ, Rafe and two brave volunteers from #joiito) were listening to streaming radio powered by me and my PC.
It's not perfect, but if you see me online and fancy relenquishing control of what you're listening to , give me a nudge on IRC (Ewan_ on irc.freenode.net,I'll be in #mobitopia or #joiito) and I'll pass you the URL if the server is up and running.
Apart from the obvious ways of letting people listen to some of the arcane comedy songs I have, I'm already wondering about streaming 'on-demand' interviews I do through AAS/AAN. Maybe I can grab some 5 minute interviews with people at CE Bit? Some of the talks at the June ConConUK2 event perhaps.
But I'm with Russ on one point. Where can we get a GPRS Shoutcast Client for Symbian?
