Speaking In Sentences

From Vikki:
Eilidh said her first "sentence" this morning... "Bye bye daddy" as Ewan was heading out to work (I lost count of how many times she said bye bye, she must have been saying it and waving for about a minute and a few times she said "bye bye daddy").

She's now saying 27 words (I've been keeping a list so I can show the speech therapist when she summons Eilidh back into her presence). She's also copying a lot more words accurately (though they're not on the list yet because she's not saying them without hearing them first).

Her words so far are: daddy, bubbles, doggie, car, yeah, hiya, bye bye, porridge, cheese (that's a favourite!), dolly, duckie, thankyou, CBeebies, mum (at last!), milk, Bob (the Builder), Dizzy (the cement mixer), chair, scarf, bang (with actions, as in ten fat sausages), woof woof, moo, bounce, ok, ball, granny, keys. She doesn't say no! She does shake her head though if she disagrees with anything or doesn't want something. If I persist then she starts stamping her feet too.

So that's my little "delayed speech" girl... that speech therapist doesn't know a thing! Eilidh's not yet 19 months (a week tomorrow) so I don't see any delay at all. All this speech has come in the last month or two.

It's been such a relief and we're glad now that we decided to ignore the speech therapist and just carry on as we have.

First sentence. Ahhh! I didn't start speaking till I was over 2 years old (so I'm told), and even then it was very limited! Anyway she seems to have all the important words sussed. Posted by: Rafe on February 19, 2024 12:55 PM
